If you are looking for snow then early Decemeber can be fantastic, but its also possible that winter hasn't come yet completely yet. The upside is you can snag a deal and empty pistes aren't to hard to find.
Of course Christmas and New Years are the ultimate time to come. A Christmas on the mountain will never be forgotten. Well worth the higher prices and extra company. Chalet 1802 is the ultimate place to stay for holiday skiing.

If you come buy in February you can expect some visitors from families as this is when French school holidays start. Expect Chamonix to be hugely crowded.
In March there is more sun. With the sun comes kinder tempratures pave the way to a chance or two with outdoor lunches. The snow begins to lose its quality. Additionally, you may get a chance to watch the Boss des Bosses bumps race on Grand Montets.
Its not uncommon that the April showers of the lowlands, are fresh snow on the mountains. Not a bad idea for a last minute get away.
Late May and early June are a quiet time in valley dotted with little blips in visitors on bank holidays.
In June, July, and August are the busy summer months. There are plenty of outdoor activities like mountain biking, picnicking and so on. The day's are warm and the nights are cool.
September is when it starts to get cool again, the valley is quieter and calmer. Prices are lower, the weather is forgiving, and hiking trails are begging to be trekked.
In the months of October and Novemeber much of the valley goes on vaction. In addition they are suiting up for the busy winter months. The town is very quiet, but if there is a major event on the mountiain, it's still a great time to visit.

Chamonix (pronounced like sha-mon-ee) is a village and a commune in the east French country side. The departement is Haute-Savoie.
